These are the strangest days These are the strangest days Sometimes I wish they would go away These are the strangest days I should be traveling on I should be traveling on Sometimes I feel like I’m already half way gone These are the strangest days And I’ve seen some lonely times And I’ve seen some lonely times And I’ve seen some lonely times, lost some friends of mine These are the strangest days Is this really fare-thee-well Is this really fare-thee well Things get so crazy, who can even tell These are the strangest days

Sitting on death row, waiting on reprieve Sitting on death row, waiting on reprieve Dear Lord please have mercy, I’m goin’ down I do believe I have seen the world through terrified eyes, there are layers and layers and layers of lies I’m sitting on death row waiting on reprieve, sometime I feel the darkness rolling over me I have seen the world through clarified eyes There are layers and layer and layers of lies  I’m sitting on death row Waiting on reprieve Sometimes I feel the darkness Rolling over me

Ameri 05:13
Drove in on the Oklahoma Turnpike Kept throwing quarters down its metal mouth Driving to the crossroads of the pipelines From the crossroads of the South I drove in from the homeland of the Choctaw To the land the Choctaw live on now I was thinking how so many die of loneliness Still we carry on somehow Ameri Did we really build our castle out of sand Ameri There’s a river full of tears cuts through this land You spent your childhood high up on the mountain You learned in nature mercy’s just a word You buried your poor mother in the desert Her body turned to stone that’s what I heard Ameri We do our best in spite of all our plans Ameri There’s a river full of tears cuts through this land I drifted from border to the border And I drifted from the ocean to the sea You snuck across the line never knowing what you’d find I’d be losing still if you weren’t here with me Ameri, you’re the only one who really understands There’s a river full of tears cuts thru this land

Green Chile 02:46
Well, Shreveport ain’t no place to die But it sure beats Monroe I’m just tryin’ to make it home I really miss my family, I really miss my friends I miss Green Chile in the morning I miss Green Chile in the morning I miss Green Chile in the morning Well, I should reach Fort Smith before the sun goes down, and shortly thereafter I should be New Mexico bound It’s just that I like sopapillas more than crusty bread And I miss Green Chile in the morning I miss Green Chile in the morning I miss Green Chile in the morning I miss Green Chile in the morning You know I could eat my way across New Orleans There ain’t nothing wrong with rice and red beans But sometimes I want some refrieds with my juevos rancheros I miss Green Chile in the morning I miss Green Chile in the morning I miss Green Chile in the morning Ya I miss Green Chile in the morning

There’s a shadow by the window where my true love stood I stayed down in Brick Town for too long The ponies moved to Dayton, she’s waiting on a train And I wonder if I’ll see her again She used to work the circus, balanced on the wire One misstep would lead to her demise I just sold the tickets, but I felt like a king ’Til I became a jester in her eyes There’s the boat to Cincinnati, I guess  I’ll take it there And see what kind of trouble I can find I figure she may be there with a dashing chocolatier Whose heart can’t need her half as much as mine And I miss her in the morning when the sun shines through the trees As the chilling mist rises in the air And I miss her in the evening when the stars come out to play And I see her in the shadows everywhere

I’ve got no conscience, I’ve got no shame Killed a man in Tennessee The preacher came, tomorrow I’ll be hanging From the branch of an old oak tree I know his widow weeps in the darkness As his children rock and moan I know his mother’s awash in anguish And still my heart beats cold as stone Mothers don’t raise your boys to ramble With the highway for their home They’ll end up pacing in a cold cell And dyin’ all alone

It’s dirt done for dirt On down the line You lose your mind after a time You try and you try, you just can’t take anymore  Sleeping in the alley, out on the street People sleeping on the ground with no socks for their feet Camped on the pavement, camped in the park Trying to steal some peace in the dark You just on moving It’s really all you can do  All our dreams walk through that door We left them lying on the killing floor You just keep moving Its all you can do Or else this city rolls over you Heaven help us, don’t you know? The killing floor ain’t no way to go All our dreams walk through that door We left them lying on the killing floor

Life will beat you down, life will drag you around You’ve got to get up and fight it everyday Life can steal your pride and leave you numb inside You’ve got to get up and fight it everyday You’ve got to get up and fight it Get up and fight it Get up and fight it everyday This world can make you mean, cast shadows on your dreams You’ve got to get up and fight it everyday This world will bring you joy, then leave you hurting boy You’ve got to get up and fight it everyday You’ve got to get up and fight it Get up and fight it Get up and fight it everyday You’ve got to get up and fight it Get up and fight it Get up an fight it everyday Life takes your confidence, and throws it against the fence You’ve got to get up and fight it everyday This world is both good and bad, don’t you get stuck on sad You’ve got to get up and fight it everyday Get up and fight it, get up and fight it Get up and fight it, everyday

Cow Town 05:15
I drove into town in a rusty old pickup Across the Mojave and into L.A. It looked to me like it’s just a big cow town If you’ve ever seen one you’d know right away The trails wind around through the mountain and canyons From Chavez Ravine to Rodeo Drive There’s hookers and lookers and cheap guns for hire Outlaws who are wanted dead or alive I met a family, who lived on the East Side They brought their kids up from El Salvador Uncles and cousins and a little grandmother Said, you’re more than welcome to sleep on the floor I got a gig playing bass in a blues band We worked from San Pedro to North Hollywood Singing “Who Do You Love”, “I’m A Voodoo Child” “Down At The Crossroads” with “Johnny B. Goode” I knew her when the streets were all dusty We’d walk hand in hand beneath the hard moon Cold rains would come, the rivers run wild A lonesome coyote would howl at the moon She looked to me like a heavenly vision She’d draw a circle around any man’s heart We’d stand on the mountain, look down at the ocean Shimmering moonlight as the waves broke apart There are some dreams that are never forsaken Here in this cow town that’s all gone to hell Came into town in a rusty old pickup Across the Mojave and into L.A. And looked to me like it’s just a big cow town If you’ve ever seen one you’d know right away

Morphine, you’re my friend I’ll love you until the end You’re warm and true, you’re sweet and kind And when you’re gone I lose my mind Papa’s at the table trying to make ends meet Mama’s in the kitchen fixing something to eat Grandma’s in the rocker wondering what gives And Grandpa’s in the basement where the medicine lives Grandpa’s in the basement where the medicine lives Morphine, please don’t go What I’d do I just don’t know The world is cold, life is cruel You’re in my soul and I’m your fool The raven’s at the window the wolf is at the door The river’s on the rise it’s lickin’ at the floor The devil tempts, the Lord forgives And Grandpa’s in the basement where the medicine lives Morphine, you’re my friend I’ll love you until the end You’re warm and true, you’re sweet and kind And when you’re gone I lose my mind

I need you now, not yesterday Not in some future far, far away I’ll get to you, I don’t know how All that I know, is I need you now Lord I have tried to understand Tasted the pleasures offered to man Travelled the back roads, looked high and low All that I’ve learned, all that I know Is I need you now, not yesterday Not in some future, far far away We’ll be together, I don’t know how All that I know, is I need you now All that I know is I need you now

Queen of Angels, Queen of Angels I have seen you in my dreams In the land where all is magick, nothing’s as it seems I was walking with my sister, we were talking about love When I saw you coming toward us like a vision from above Lord, Lord, from above Queen of Angels, Queen of Angels, I am broken, I am poor The doors that use to open just won’t open anymore I’m living in the forest, in a gypsy camp Sometimes the wind blows cold and I shiver in the damp Lord, Lord, in the damp   Queen of Angels, Queen of Angels,  I have lived a life of sin Truth is if I could I would do it all again I have traveled like a whirlwind I have blown from town to town Seems like every time I show up there’s trouble goin’ down Lord, Lord, goin’ down Queen of Angels, Queen of Angels I have tried to do my best I have risen to the call when you put me to the test I have given I have taken, I have squandered, I have saved If my name be not forsaken when they lay me in my grave Lord, Lord, in my grave
